The Common Loon is Minnesota's state bird. These graceful creatures, with their haunting calls, are a treasure of nature. My Watercolor Birds class chose this image to paint, and I had fun demonstrating the use of masking fluid to preserve the intricate white spots and strips on these beauties. This piece was given to a friend for Christmas, so it is not available.
